Harrison Parent Teacher Council
Six Schools One Community

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year! We know that this will be a great year of learning throughout the Harrison Central School District.

Get Involved
One easy way to stay involved in your child’s education is to join the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at each school where you have a child attending. The PTAs are a great source of information about what is happening in our schools. Please take a look at their websites and join the PTA email list so you can receive current information and important announcements. We encourage you to attend monthly PTA meetings, which are listed on the school district calendar. All of our PTAs have some evening meetings scheduled during the year so that working parents can attend. Talking with your children and their teachers is also a great way to find out what is going on in your school and classroom.

Consider Volunteering
Our PTAs coordinate many great events in our schools including math nights, author visits, theatre productions and spaghetti dinners, just to name a few! To provide these programs for our children, the PTA needs you! All of our PTAs have a variety of volunteer opportunities to suit your schedule. Please contact one of your school’s PTA Presidents to find out more. The PTA “welcome back to school letter”, website and PTA listserve email blasts also provide you with opportunities to volunteer. Make sure you are signed up for your school’s PTA listserve (see below) – this is the main way school information is communicated!

Stay Informed
Public education is the hot topic in the press and state and federal legislatures. Changes are happening, or being proposed, at the state and federal level, which will impact Harrison schools. Parents need to have a voice in this process. By joining your local PTA, it enables the New York State (NYS) PTA and National PTA to be heard in a meaningful way by both state and federal governments. We will keep you informed of legislative developments that affect us and we may ask you to take action.
